HOME DESTROYED.

fire at horotiu. VALUABLE HOUNDS SAVED. A five-roomed house, at Horotiu owned by Mr E. A. Hall and occupied by Mr and Mrs H. Iremonger, was destroyed by fire early on Saturday morning. There was nobody in the house at the time. Passing truck drivers saved eight valuable beagles, owned by Mr T. E. Pearson, of Sydney, just as the fire had spread to the shed in which the beagles were housed. The house and contents were covered by insurance. OLD BUILDING DAMAGED. AUCKLAND, Monday. A wooden building, believed to be one of the oldest in Auckland, next to the Grand Hotel, Princes Street, was damaged by fire on Saturday afternoon. The building is owned by Hancock and Company, Ltd., and is used by members of the hotel staff.
