KAIPAKI NEWS.
DISTRICT’S FAREWELL. The Kaipaki Hall was well filled on Friday evening, when residents and friends gathered to farewell Mr and Mrs T. Searle and family, who are shortly leaving the district, and who were the guests of honour. Among the visitors were the Rev. G. W. Chandler (vicar of Cambridge), and Mesdames M. Costello, the previous head teacher of the school, with whom Mr Searle had worked as a member of the school committe. The arrangements for the evening, which took the form of a dance and card evening, were In the hands of Mr A. M. Fisher, assisted by a strong committee of ladies and men.
Mrs Wiley (Ohaupo) played for the dancing, and Messrs. R„ Speake and G. Boyd were M.’sG. Mr J. Boyd had charge of the card tables, prizes being won by Mrs A. M. Fisher and Mr Christiansen.
Before supper Mrs J. Graham presented Mrs Searle with a beautiful bouquet. Mr A. Fisher spoke a few words of welcome and called upon Mr J. S. Fisher to make the presentation.
Mr Fisher said it was not an easy matter to say good-bye to a good friend and neighbours who had lived beside him for the past 27 years and for whom he had the most kindly feeling and respect.
On behalf of the residents of the district, and as a mark of appreciation and high esteem, he presented them with a handsome clock and also handed to Mr Searle an envelope containing a substantial cheque.
In reply, Mr Searle thanked Mr Fisher for his kind remarks and those present for the beautiful gifts. They had always enjoyed working with the Kaipaki people, whom they were sorry to leave.
A novelty dance was won by Miss Robb and Mr Hassell, of Tokoroa. A happy evening closed with the singing of For Auhi Lang Syne.”
