THE MIDLAND COUNTIES.

ENJOYABLE SOCIAL. VISITORS ENTERTAINED, On the occasion of the visit of members of the Auckland branch of the Birmingham and Midland Counties Association on Saturday evening, a social was given them by the Hamilton branch at the Centreway.

There was a large attendance, Including over forty visitors, who were welcomed by the Mayor, Air J. R. Fow, and the Dean, the Very Rev. T. P. Weatherhog. Replying, Mr H. V. Hampton, president of the Auckland branch, outlined its activities, and the progress it had made since its inception, Just over a year ago. “Advance,” said the speaker, “is a motto of Birmingham, and it is also a creed of the Auckland branch of the association.” Air T. R. Stanger, of Auckland, also spoke. During the evening dancing was enjoyed, and several items were given. The performers were:—Airs J. Elvey

(songs), Air iB. Peace (monologues), Air C. Thompson (elocution), Mr L. Cooke (elocution), Air G. Kingston (tap dancing). Air W. Whitehead was the pianist.
