KEREONE AND OLD BOYS WIN. (Special to Times.) MORRINSVILLE, Monday. 'Much improved football was seen at the Morrlnsville Recreation Ground on Saturday, when the second day’s play of the Morrlnsville sub-unlon’s senior competition took place. Old Boys 13, Kiwitahl 3. The new Kiwitahl team of Maori players put tip a great struggle against Old Boys on No. 1 ground, and although Old Roys won by ten points they were only two points ahead until tho last Tew minutes. Kiwitahl Justified Its Inclusion In the competition by playing hard until the end against more experienced opponents. Kiwitahl were first to press, and F. Hunnard kicked a penalty goal. Play was Tairly even throughout the first hair with the Kiwitahl Torwards making great efforts, but their harks could not make use or the ball when it was heeled to them. Altken at centre three-quarter and R. Soanes a Tull bark were called on repeatedly to save Old Boys with kicks to touch. Just before half-time A. Carter followed up rast to take advantage of a mistake by the Kiwitahl full back and raced on t>o score behind the posts. Altken converted. Old Roys 5, Khvifahl 3. Both teams attacked in turn arter hairtime, and Altken had several shots at goal from free-kicks. Old Boys gained the ascendancy as Kiwitahl tired, and from a passing rush Wright on the left wing scored in the corner, arter several movements to Vivian on the other wing had been checked by keen tackling. Altken converted with a good kick. In the last Tew minutes Old Boys’ hack handled again, and Altken came into the movement again to take Wright’s pass and score wide out. Thp kick failed. Old Boys 13, Kiwitahl 3. Mr W. Moxsom was referee. Kereone 28, Terriers 0.
On No. 2 ground the champion team, Kereone, which contains four Waikato representatives, won easily rrom Terriers by 28 points to 0 arter leading 14—o at hair-time Terriers started off with 12 men. including several newcomers, and there was a lack or understanding petween the players. Tries for Kereone were scored by L. Russell (two), J. Leeson, M. Bodmin (two), T. Clarkin. and R. Clarkin, one being converted by W. Cameron and one by Russell, with a penalty goal by W. Cameron. Mr F. Howard was rererce. Pome keen play was seen in the Junior games. United beat Tahuna by three points, an unconverted try to nil. Old Roys beat Bible Class Rovers by nine points to nil. Eastern scored a last-minute win over Kenerone by 11 points to nine. Terriers ran up a big seore or 27 points to three against Motumaoho. The. third grade competition was commenced. Old Roys beat Kereone by 12 points to nine, and Terriers beat United by 14 points to 5.
