NUMEROUS CASUALTIES?
DEATH OF A SEAMAN. FALL TO STEAMER’S DECK. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) AUCKLAND. Monday. Alexander Fulton (43), a seaman, received a fracture of the skull and was killed when he fell 25 feet from a gantry to the steel deck of the Union Steam Ship Company’s collier Kiwitea on Saturday afternoon. At an inquest held before Mr Wyvern Wilson, S.M., coroner, yesterday afternoon a verdict of accidental death was returned. ACCIDENT AT HANQITIKI. HAMILTONIAN IN HOSPITAL. (Special to Times.) TE KUITI, Monday. Injuries to the back were received by a resident of Frankton. Mr Connelly, when the motor-cycle he was riding was struck by a car near the HangTtiki Lime Works yesterday. Mr Connelly was thrown heavily to the road and was admitted to the Te Kuiti Hospital, where his condition is regarded as fairly serious. The full extent of his injuries has, however, not been ascertained. The car, which was driven by Mr W. Boyd, postmaster at Wajtomo Caves, was not extensively damaged. FATAL INJURIES. WOMAN KNOCKED DOWN (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) PALMERSTON NORTH, Sunday. As a result of injuries received when she was knocked down by a car in Church Street on Saturday night, Mrs Alice Wilson, aged 69, a widow, died in the Palmerston North Hospital to-day. The driver of the car was Mrs Kathleen Hughes. She stopped her car and found Mrs Wilson lying on the road injured. FIVE MEN INJURED. MOTOR-CAR OVERTURNS. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WAIHI, Saturday. When a light car overturned on thß Waihi-Paeroa road about a-quarter of a mile from the Golden Dawn mine, Owharoa, at 8.30 last evening, Mr W. J. Goldsworthy, married, suffered concussion, severe head injuries and abrasions to the face and neck; Mr Godfrey Kelly, injuries to the neck; Mr A. Lloyd, leg injuries and contusion of the right knee; Messrs Leslie Drawbridge and M. Durie, minor cuts and abrasions. Apart from Mr Drawbridge, who lives at Waikino, and Mr Kelly, who lives at Katikati. the men are residents of Waihi. The owner and driver of the car, Mr Wilfred J. Taylor, escaped unhurt. BTRUCK BY CAR. AUCKLAND, Monday. While crossing the road in front of his home in Beach Road. Papakura, late on Saturday night, Mr Hugh Campbell Kirk, aged 61, married, was struck by a car and suffered concussion and a fracture of a leg. He was taken to the Auckland Hospital, where his condition is regarded as fairly serious. MOTOR-GYOLIBT HURT. AUCKLAND, Monday. When he collided with a parked cap at Avondale last evening, a motorcyclist, Mr R. Wright, aged 37, of New Lynn, suffered a fracture of the skull and his condition this morning was regarded as very serious. A COLLISION. WHANGAREI. Sunday. Lionel Motley, aged 17, a motorcyclist, received a fracture of the skull and injuries to the brain when he was involved in a collision with a lorry driven by Mr A. McKinlay in Church Street. Hikurangi, on Satur- jf day. His condition is very serious.
FOOTBALLERB INJURED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WHANGAREI. Monday. Ambulance men on duty at football on Saturday were fully occupied. One player broke a leg, another a collarbone and another had three ribs fractured. MOTOR-CYCLIST KILLED. COLLISION WITH CAR. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) ASHBURTON, Monday. Fatal injuries were received by MP Frank Newman, a bushman, aged 64, when the motor-cycle he was riding came into collision with a car driven by Mr Alister Malcolm Dixon, of Carter’s Terrace. Tinwald, at the intersection of Wills and West Streets at noon on Saturday. He was admitted to hospital with a compound fracture at the base of the skull and died at. 10.20. Mr Dixon was uninjured. The vehicles met at right angles.
