G. L. Hewitt. S.M. in the Magj isfrate’s Court, this morning, when Alfred Sydney Buckley, a labourer, pleaded guilty to four charges of theft. The charges included thefts from three farms where he had been working, and the theft of a bicycle. The first charge was theft of clothing and goods at Waitiu, near Inglewood. on January 18; the second theft of a bicycle on April 11, from Hamilton, valued at £lO, the property of V. W. K. Hunt; the third theft of jewellery and clothing valued at £ll 15s from the farm of H. F. Tyler, at Fencourt, on May 1, and the last offence was alleged to have been committed at, Mangapeehi on May 10. when tools valued at £3 were removed by accused. Constable P. Watts read statements signed by accused. Admitting the Offences. Detective-Sergeant J. Thompson, who prosecuted, stated that Buckley had been working around various farms taking money and valuables from three employers and leaving them without giving notice. The total amount of goods stolen amounted to £29 18s. He had been in trouble three times before and had been given probation and had not been before a Court since 1925. “ These thefts have taken place over a period of some months and are four distinct offences. He must he taught, a more severe lesson.” added His Worship, in imposing sentence.
