FIRES ON STEAMERS
BRIGADES BEING ORGANISED. SEARCHING INQUIRY PROPOSED. United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright. (Received May 16, 11.0 a.m.) SYDNEY, May IC. Following the disastrous fire on the steamer Taroona at Melbourne on April 10 a fire brigade is being organised for every passenger vessel on the Australian coast. This announcement was made by the Director of Navigation, Captaiu Davis, who added that a searching Investigation will be made into the cause of the fire on the Taroona. He said that an electric short circuit was not responsible for the outbreak, because the ship's power was turned off at the time.
