ANOTHER RECORD
WINTER SHOW ENTRIES. INCREASE IN ALL SECTIONS. j GREAT EXHIBITION ASSURED. J Exceeding the previous record figures by several hundreds, the entries for this year’s Waikato Winter Show, which will open a season of eight days and eight nights on Tuesday, May 26. have established a new re-cc-rdi which istamps Hamilton’s annual exhibition as New Zealand’s greatest display of agricultural, and industrial products, and home crafts. Founded 30 years ago, the show has progressed year by year until it has come to be recognised as the Dominion’s leading winter exhibition, a fact which is borne out by the patronage accorded it. by exhibitors from all parts of the country. The magnitude of its dairy section has earned for the show the reputation of being a powerful aid in the improvement of the quality of butter and cheese by encouraging competition among the dairy factories of both islands. Great Dairy Display, This year’s dairy section will be as great as ever, the aggregate of entries being 1225, drawn from all parts of the Dominion. The gigantic task of judging the entry will commence next Tuesday, and will extend over about five days. Fourteen officers of the Dairy Division of the Department of Agriculture will be engaged.
In other sections of the show, the support from exhibitors has surpassed previous records. In some sections entries have been doubled and even trebled this year, as compared with last year, this being particularly apparent in the photographic division, w'here this year's entries total 280, as against 72 last year. The agricultural classes and home Industries division also disclose substantial Increases. A comparison of the entries for this and last year Is shown In the following table:—
In the Sunday Schools’ section the entries are about 70 in advance of last year, while in the general school classes there is a rise of about 600, bringing the advance of entries over last year’s total to a substantial figure. An interesting feature is the revival of the poultry section, which was formerly one of the most popular attractions at the show. With nearly 400 entries for this section, an interesting exhibition of feathered stock Is indicated. Popular Competitions. The popularity of the music, elocutionary and dancing competitions, which will commence in the Winter Show concert hall and Bledisloe Hall on Wednesday, May 27, extending over four days has been fully maintained.
