STREET WIDENING.
MORRINBVILLE PROPOBALB. BOROUGH COUNCIL TAKES ACTION. (Special to Times.) MORRISVILLLE, Friday. Morrlnsviiie’s misfortune in having- main streets that are only a chain wide was commented on‘ at last evening-’s meeting of the Morrlnsvllle Borough Council, which has recently been considering acquiring a strip of land on both sides of Thames and Studholme Streets with a view to widening these streets ultimately. The Mayor (Mr W. T. Osborne) explained that a special committee -which had discussed street widening had recommended that the building line be set back live feet in Studholme Street between Thames and Anderson Streets. This was an urgent measure as the new brick fire station was to be erected in this street shortly and would be built on the street level. It was also proposed that verandahs in the Hamilton end of Thames Street be restricted to 10ft. so as to allow widening the bitumen roadway for traffic by taking a few feet or the footpaths. These recommendations were approved. In further discussion the Mayor suggested the need for a comprehensive plau of street widening, so that the mistakes of previous years could he avoided. He thought it might be desirable to call in a town-planning expert. The special committee was instructed to inquire Turther into the matter of street widening and report to a later meeting of the council.
