I WELLINGTON, Thursday. ‘ Sir George Wilson, of Auckland, was ‘elecled the first president of the New IZeeLlaud National Party at its confer—‘eure to—day 0n the motion of .\lr I\\'esion. seconded by Mr W”. J~ Broad— I‘oot. .\LP. The conference room was again crowded during the morning. Addresses concerning the place of women in the organisation were given ‘by Miss Sanders, of Christchurch, Miss ‘Turkington of Auckland, and Mrs Stone 0! \Veliinston. Mr H. G. Livingstone. of Christchurch spoke on the question of pub~ licity and propaganda, and the Right Hon. J. G. Coates addressed the conference on “ some probable results of Labour's policy." At the conclusion _of his sddress sopreciative references were made to the efforts of all members of the Opposition in Parliament.
In accepting the presidency of the organisation Sir George Wilson said in a conference whose members were drawn from all parts of New Zealand, it was inevitable there would be dif—ferent views, but on the vital question that as a result of the conference there should arise at strong political organisation, all were agreed. it that, there to he achieved it was essential that old party divisions should be forgotten. lie said different opinions were héld about leadership. He yielded to no one in his own personal loyalties, but loyalty to New Zealand must. come first and for that reason he appealed to them to refrain at the present stage from making leadership-311 issue of the party. “hen the organisation was working smoothly and supporters were enrolled the question would be fully considered.
