OUTBREAK ON STEAMER.

A fire on the Aberdeen and Com—monwealth steamer Jervis Bay, berthed at Newcastle, extensively damaged the saloon galley and the starboard pantry, and minor damage occurred in the mess room and the butcher‘s shop amidships. Dense smoke hampered the crew's efforts to arrest the outbreak with chemical extinguishers, but when llre brigades arrived the firemen used smoke helmets and the flames were soon under control. Steam pipes burst and some or the crew were burned.
