The first time the police arrived Constable Hinton arrested a man for drunkenness. They were later summoned when a large number or people who had been unable to gain admission to the early sitting of supper attempted- to eject those who were already at supper. The large crowd present necessitated several sittings of supper and those who did not. gain admission to the first sitting alleged that most of the food was being eaten by those already at supper. Cakes, sandwiches, crockery and trays were used as missiles and the defenders made a determined stand.
The pollce later stated that lnqulrles were being made to ascertaln the source of the large quantltles of liquor 111 evidence at the hall. The bad management was suld to be due to the fact. that the dance was not being run for some fund with a. responsible com« mlttee in charge but was staged by some youths solely as a money—maklng venture.
