‘ WIDER MEDICAL SERVICE. 1 SECOND DOCTOR SUGGESTED. The need for a second. resident ‘doctor in Huntly was stressed by a deputation from the Huntly and Renown )linei-s‘ Medical Club comprising Messrs I. Hutchinson and ’l‘. Johnston whose representations to the finance committee were placed Ibefore the \\'aikato Hospital Board to-day. The board was also asked to consider an annual subscription per member for hospital treatment.
.\lr Hutchinson told the board that the club had no complaint to make with the serVice at the \Vaikato Hos—pital but it was thought. that a second medical prartitioner stationed at lluntly would provide adequate medical attention and lessen the number of patients at present required to enter the hospital. The club \\'as negotiating to purchase a doctor‘s residence at a cost. of approximately 21000 and the Iboard would not ‘he asked to render any financial assistance but only to give its support to maintain the medicai‘services in the liuntly district in an emcient manner.
A flat rate 1191‘ member for hospital treatment for themselves, their wives and [children up to 16 years 01' age \\'as suggested. the board to accept. ls per member per month with a minimum guarantee of £IOO per annum. The membership of the club was aboul 300 and its activities covered a radius of 15 miles from Ituntl)‘.
It was deviderl that the club should be asked to submit the requests in writing and the secretary, Mr .\. C. Burgess. was inatrurled to submit a statement shoMng the cost to 1110 board of huspital treatment of mun—bers of the club.
