TE AWAMUTU BOROUGH.
GOUNOIL MEETING HELD. CON-GESTION AT POST OFFICE. (Times Bepresentative). TE AWAMU’I‘U. Tuesday. The Te Awamutu Borough Council met last evening, those present being the Mayor, Mr G. Spinley, and Messrs G. Glfl‘ord, A. Brown, “7. J. North, H. G. Raine}; G. O. Jourdain, D. \Vallace and J. (J. Monteflore. An invitation was received from the First Battalion, \V‘aikato Regiment, for the Mayor and Councillors to attend the presentation of new colours at Hamilton on May '24. by the Governor— General, Viscount Gaiway. The invitation was accepted. A reply to the council‘s complaint that damage to the new roucrete at the railway station had been done ny schoolboys was receh‘ed from the headmaster of the Te Awamutu Dis—trlct High School.—The letter was received, the clerk stating that the mat—ter had been dealt with.
The trustee of the Robottom Estate wrote stating that the price of the section required for the improvement of the corner was £35, free of all costs—The matter was referred to the Highways Board. Parking of Vehicles. The chief postmaster at Hamilton wrote with regard to the question oi mail cars parking outside the Te Awa—mutu Post Otllce to unload mails. At ‘present parking is prohibited outside tthe Post Utiice, but the letter stated that permission to unload in front or ‘the Post Ufllce would facilitate the transfer of mails. A request was also received from llodgson's Motors for permission to stop their Kihikihi—Te Awamutu bus in front or the ofllce for the purpose at picking up passengers land dropping inward mails from Kihi—faint. ' 1 The Mayor said that the local post—‘master had discussed the matter with ‘the clerk and himself and they were of ‘the opinion that the proposed arrange‘ment would be an improvement on the existing service from Kihikihi. The {buses would only stop. but would not remain in front of the Post Omce. The application was granted. Exchange Facilities. The Mayor said that instruments at the local telephone exchange were out of date and the attention of the Post—master—General should be drawn to the position. The stafl’ was conscientious but it was unfair to expect them to vuse the existing instrumentsMr Raiuey said the position was a disgrace to the town, and after further comment it was decided that the Post master—General he asked to put the promised additions in hand. The Mayor reported that a new building was to be erected at the corner of George and Arawata Streets and a new stock route would be necessary in \‘le\\' 01' the consequent congestion at the corner. ‘ Town Hall leeApplication for a reduction in the rent for the Town Hall and the use of the hall for two iixed nights a week for four months was made on behalf of the To Awamulu Badminton club by Messrs \\". .l. Grail; and F. J. Miller. it was decided that the club ShOiuld use the hall on Mondays and ’l‘hurs—days, with a week‘s notice of any al—teraiion.
