SENT FOR TRIAL.
WOMAN BEFORE COURT. ALLEGED ILLEGAL OPERATION. (By Teiegrapb.—Pres3 Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Thursday. After a hearing occupying nearly two days Ruebena Shirley, married, of Alpha Road, was yesterday committed to the Supreme Court for trial on a charge that on or about March 15 she used an instrument for an illegal purpose, or other means with like intent on Catherine Maria Hill. She pleaded not guilty. Mrs Hill died in the Christchurch Hospital on March 27. Ball was allowed in £SOO, with one surety of £SOO, or two of £250. Accused is to report to the police on alternate days. ®he inquest into the death of Mrs Hill, whip-h was heard simultaneously, i was adjourned sine die. Chief-Detec-tive W. H. Dunlop, conducting the case for the police, called evidence of a system to show that Mrs Shirley had been carrying on business for some time. Mr F. D. Sargent, for accused, objected. The magistrate noted the objection and heard the evidence, saying that the point could be argued in"a higher Court. He made an order prohibiting the publication of this evidence and the names of the witnesses giving it.
