TENDERS FOR BREAD
GOVERNMENT’S ACTION. BUPPLY FOR WAITOMO HOSTEL. SEVERE CRITICISM. (Special to Times.) TE KUITI, Friday. Severe criticism has been levelled at the Government for its action in calling tenders for the supply of bread to the Government Hostel at Waitomo, when all other consumers including institutions in competition with the hostel had to pay the pricto fixed by the Government some time ago. The schedule has been received toy all bakers in the proximity of the hostel calling for tenders and it is stated that in submitting tenders, they need not consider themselves bound by the regulations now in existence regarding the baking trade. It was stated that under the regulations there were fixed rates for bread delivered, sold over the counter and sold on a wholesale basis. Local boarding houses could not be sold bread at even wholesale rates, as it was not afterwards retailed, but the Government had apparently placed its own hostel*outside the regulations.
