CURRENCY CONTROL.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —Correspondents in your columns usually treat one another kindly, and Mr Calshore's last letter was nicely worded. I have a distinct recollection that Mr Young, prior to the elections, took you to task about the control of banking, and emphai sised the necessity of having the Reserve Bank controlled by people as far removed from personal influence as are the judges in our courts. Would it be too much to ask Mr Young what he thinks of the methods adopted by the Government? Has his ideal system been realised? Why I remember the correspondence is because it struck me as a great idea to have a sort of financial judiciary, simply to control currency and credit in the interests of the country. Have we got it? —I am, etc., R. STEAD. Hamilton, May 5.
