TASMANIAN MINISTER.
PRODUCE AND AFFORESTATION. GUARANTEED PRICE MOVEMENT. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) \VELLINGTON, \Vednesday. The Ilnu. ti. -llosgravn, the Tasmanlan Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, has arrived to investigate matters of interest to his departments. Accompanied by his wife, he will spend a little over a fortnight in the Do—mlnlon. Mr Cosgrave said he was particu- , larly interested in the marketing proposals, as he was going to introduce a Marketing Bill next session. Farm—ing conditions in Tasmania were very similar to those in New Zoaland and conditions and Climate were about the same. so :1 scheme that. would suit New Zealand should also sult- Tasmania.‘ .\lany Tasmanian dairy farmers had changed over to sheep. Themain trouble in the past, so far as dairying was concerned, had been the quality of the pastures. and ‘ he believed that Tasmania‘s best way‘ out. of the agricultural difficulty was] through pasture improvement. The Government had been encouraging this for the past. 10 years. He estimated that. about 100.000 acres a. year were brought in as good pastures. and he believed that. what was being done would place dairy farming in Tas—mania on an economic basis. Farmers had been advocating guaranteed prices in Australia for the past two years, but no State could act alone. Mr Cosgmve said he wanted to learn as much as he could about attorestation methods in New Zealand. The Aii'orestation Department, had! experimented with plans insignia and! Douglas fir, but the results had not: been good. and afforestation at present 3 was mainly confined to native trees. I
