NEXT MONTH’S EVENT.
arrangements well ahead Preparations for the Summer Show, which will open at Claudelands, on November 12, were carried well forward at the meeting of the general committee of the Waikato Agricultural and Pastoral Association yesterday. The president, Mr T. Martin, presided. Chief stewards were appointed as follows: —Light horses, Mr G. Hinton; carriage horses, Mr H. Windsor; childrens’ horses, Mr C. H. Hargreaves; draught horses, Mr R. S. Hinton; Milking Shorthorns, Mr W. Cooper-Smith; Jerseys, Mr W. T. Luxton; Friesians, Mr W. Rothwell; Ayrshires, Mr W. R. J. Franklin; sheep, Romney Marsh, Mr J. C. Potts; fat sheep, Mr T. Bellamy; pigs, Air A. G. Johnstone; ground steward, Air W. J. McKee. The remainder of the stewards were appointed as last year. It was decided to call for tenders for catering at the show. The secretary was instructed to invite Mr E. Fathers (Paeroa) to conduct the publican’s booth again. It was decided to employ a paid official to take charge of stock on arrival and see that it was installed in the appointed quarters. The president, secretary and Mr McNicol were appointed a publicity committee. Matter of Holidays. It was agreed that the Alayor of Hamilton be asked to recommend a half-holiday for business people on the second day of the show. Air G. H. Hargreaves said the schools should he given a holiday on. one of the show days, a system which was followed in other districts. He knew of many children who were excellent riders and would welcome an opportunity to participate in the horse competitions. ~ ~ It was decided to ask all the committees of schools within a radius of 20 miles of Hamilton to grant a holiday on the second day of the show. The question of arranging for boundary riders was left to Mr Newell. The Workers’ Educational Association wrote pointing out the value of its work in the community and appealing for a donation. The letter was received. Skylights Installed.
' Mr Newell reported that some exhibitors had found £2O towards the expenses of installing skylights in the cattle sheds and moved that the association subsidise this amount by a further £2O. ~ Mr W. J. AlcKee pointed out the desirability of putting in six sky-lights costing about £SO which would complete the job. An amendment to this effect was carried. It was decided to defer the work until after the ram fair. _____
