QUEENSLAND’S BUDGET.
INCREASES IN TAXATION.
SMALL SURPLUS ANTICIPATED. United Press Assn.*—Elec. Tel. Copyright. (Received Oct. 3, 10.30 a.m.) BRISBANE, October 3. The budget has been introduced into the assembly. It provides for increases in the income tax, arid succession duty, and imposes a duty on betting tickets.. The treasurer, Hon. W. 11. Barnes said a surplus of £3268 is expected.
CABINET PROPOSALS. SUBMISSION TO LABOUR CAUCUS. United Press Assn. —Elec. Tel. Copyright. (Received Oct. 3, 9.30 a.m.) CANBERRA, October 3. The Federal Cabinet has decided to recommend for consideration of the Labour caucus proposals for the reduction of salaries of the Commonwealth Ministers by 15 per cent., parliamentary salaries by 10 per cent., the reduction of salaries of Federal public servants on a graduated scale ranging from 21 per cent, to 12J per cent., with new taxation increases on all incomes which are not derived from personal exertion, increased probate and succession duties, increased excise duties, the revision of the sales tax to exclude many existing exemptions. It also decided on a scheme for the promotion of new works with the assistance of the Commonwealth Bank for the absorption of the unemployed.
REDUCTION of salaries. A SLIDING SCALE. United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright. (Received Oct. 3, 10.30 a.m.) ADELAIDE, October 3. The Premier, Hon. L. L. Hill, stated that the reductions in' the civil service, salaries will be on a sliding scale, the average being 10 per cent. The cut will take effect as from October 18.
