LAWN TENNIS.

LOWER WAIKATO ASSOCIATION.

ANNUAL MEETING. At the annual meeting of the Lower Waikato Tennis Association, Mr H. J. Sampson, president, presided. The Association was represented with the exception of the Pukemiro and Glon Massey ’Clubs. The balance-sheet showed a credit of £7 8s 9d. In reporting on the year’s activities the president expressed satisfaction generally. Ngaruawahia had won the A grade competition. This was largely due to tho fact that the Huntly Club had entered two senior teams and so ■evened up the competition, besides giving more players an opportunity of participating in senior matches. The B grade competition had been vvon by Pukemiro. The tournament on Anniversary Day had proved a great success. In .the .Banner competition of the Waikato Association a win had been gained over Te Kuiti, the default in the next match being due to the lateness of the fixture. Mrs Isdale and Mr A. Menzles had been selected from this sub-association in the team to represent Waikato. The election of officers resulted; Patron, Mr Broughton; president, Mr •H. J. Sampson; vice-presidents, Messrs W. McGruer, C. Gleeson, F. Harris, I. Kasoof, A. Yelland, F. Meuli; secretary, Mr H. D. Sampson. Affiliation fees were fixed at 9d per member. It was resolved that match teams should consist of four ladies and four men. Selectors appointed were Messrs Berry (Huntly) and H. D. Sampson (Ngaruawahia). It was resolved that matches should commence on November 8, nominations to be in the hands of the secretary by October 20; also to hold a tournament on January 29. It was decided that the games held oyer from last year’s tournament—the semi-finals and finals of the combined doubles and the finals of the men’s singles—should be played off at Huntly on November 1. The secretary was authorised to endeavour to raise funds towards obtaining a new cup.
