The Spring meeting of, the Waikato Trotting olub will be hold at Claudelands on Saturday, October 11, and everything points to the progressive local Club experiencing a successful opening fixture for the new season. THE MARK MEMORIAL.
LEADING EVENT DISCUSSIONS. The leading event at the Spring meeting of the Waikato Trotting Club is the Mark Memorial Handicap, of two miles, with a 4.38 limit. By the time owners reach a decision tomorrow evening, it is expected that a useful field will remain in. On the front of the handicap are Glandore and Richore. The latter, from the Corrigan stable at Hawera, offers the better prospects of this pair as he has gone 4.39 for a win, while a second in 4.37 2-5 also stands to his credit. The. Waikato pair, Te Wahia and J oybird, are on the 4\37 mark (12yds) with the Aucklander Stoney. Te Wahia is likely to command major respect of this trio, having a third at the distance, while his form over shorter > journeys has also been very encouraging.* Hal Chimes, Warspite, Gang Awa’ and Sunny Bob, all of whom figure- on 2-iyds or 4.36, will each have admirers. The winner might readily come from any of this quartette. Dilnon, who is a point further back in company with Enawah, Brutus and Belle Axworthy, hails from the same Canterbury stable (C. S’. Donald) as Sunny Bob.- While the performances of those figuring on 4.35 could each be sounded favourably when seeking for the prospects concerning the race ahead, attention can at this stage be particularly directed to Belle Axworthy, who has shown brilliant form up to a mile and a half. In the only two mile-effort yet sought of her, A. J. Julian’s charge was third In 4.36 2-5. If the leading event locally is specialised in, there is every reason to anticipate that Belle Axworthy would be capable of responding generously. Warplane, off 4.33, would only require to reproduce his best to be a dangerous candidate, while ;the southerner Acre has the credit of bettering the 4.32 he is now on, although his . most recent form has not been up to that. Many things can happen between this and race day, but among the candidates likely to liaVe attention in the early discussions are Enawah, Belle Axworthy, Sunny Bob and Gang Awa’.
THE SPRINT ITEM.
SMART FIELD IN STEWARDS. , The sprint event of the card at Claudelands on October 11 will be the Stewards’ Handicap. This is a mile with a limit of 2.18. Of the nine candidates on this mark Richore and Queen Elizabeth are from the Corrigan stable and the bracket will And some, favour. Pavlova should be capable of holding reasonable prospects, while Brook Pointer, who hails from C. D. Donald’s team will not be a neglected candidate, as he has shown winning form on the track. Vanity Boy and Glandore have bettered the mark set them, but they are not likely to improve at this stage of their career; The roan pacer, Dan Direct, on 2.17, will claim very solid support as this English importation, now that he is thoroughly acclimatised, promises to be good. Gang Awa’ and Stoney, off 12yds, may find some of the others beginning too well. Nella Dillon, set to go 2.16, is likely to be a particularly well favoured sort as she is in order for the job and is a speedy traveller over a short course. Goldman is a. possibility, but is getting on, w’hile Master Huia will have some admirers off 2.15. Joybird offers better prospects here than in the longer race as she is speedy and a smart beginner. Florent has some useful form to his credit, while Dilnon, although on 2.13, is a paoer of class even if his task is no : easy one. The way wdll be dearer after acceptance hour, but Dan Direot, Nella Dillon, Joy Bird and Dilnon are among the discussed at this stage.
