THE HOOPER CUP.

HINEMOA WINS TROPHY.

I DEFEAT SCHOOL BY s—i. ] Hinemoa gained the Hooper Cup this | season by defeating .High School yes- ] terday afternoon by 5 goals' to 1. The j cup is for competition between the I winner of the Hamilton senior chamj pionship and the Hamilton High School, and the team with the most points out of three games holds the trophy. On Saturday School were.beaten by HineI moa, to the tune of 12 goals to 4, and yesterday Hinemoa emerged victors by 5 goals to 1. The game was exceedingly fast and exciting and was very even. School looked a .different .team than when, they played on Saturday and should have had three goals up in the first quarter of an hour. Hinemoa - did not really get going properly until after half-time and they had to . fight hard to keep School away from their goal. Keenan and Barratt were exceptionally safe at full-backs and Munroe was always a thorn in School’s side at icentre-half. He intercepted the majority of the passes' from the j School, halves to the School forwards. The forwards combined well and gave School a lot of trouble, but their shooting was erratic. Olive, the School goalie, was a big improvement on his Saturday’s game, and he came away from a hard afternoon’s work with colours flying; He certainly, kept the score down. The Pountney brothers were steady but J. Pountney was inclined to be too cool.’ They both hit powerfully. School’s weak link was their halves. Though the three of them worked hard and well throughout the whole of the game, they did not feed their forwards nearly as much as they should have. The fonvards contained some good individualists who ■ were not given over 'many chances. The teams were as follows: Hinemoa (blue). —Patton, Keenan, Barrett, Vincent, Munro, Latta, Hampton, Gonradi, Monteith, Luxton. ; High School (red and black). — Olive, J. Pountney, D.. Pountney, R. t Taylor, A. Hubbard,. Keppel, G. Hub- £ bard, Senior, J. West, Westwater, i Moreland.

The Play.

Hinemoa took the field three men short. School won the bully and pressed down field but Munroe intercepted a pass and Hampton carried play into School’s twenty-five. G. Hubbard, Westwater and Senior carried play back and Westwater had a - good though unsuccessful shot. School kept up the pressure and were unlucky not to score. Hinemoa returned and Olive effected two clever saves. School went right to the attack and had Hinemoa penned up in their twenty-five for a quarter of an hour. During that time G. Hubbard had two and • Westwater had three hard though unsuccessful shots at goal. Latta and Luxton joined the Hinemoa team at this stage. Hinefnoa took a turn at attack ahd School were hard pressed, iae Pountney brothers were doing great work for School and Olive did good work in saving two shots. Hinemoa Score First. School attacked hotly but Keenan saved well. Munroe fed his forwards and Gonradi natched a goal for Hinemoa. Hinemoa 1 School 0 School gaining possession from the bully broke away, and Westwater’s shot just rose over the goal.. Hinemoa returned but School managed to work back and were conceded a corner. West had a shot at the goal but the ball was deflected over the net. From the following corner Hinemoa cleared. The School forwards were put in action again but Hubbard was ruled off-side. Monteith and Latta carried play down for Hinemoa and Olive defended his charge against two hard shots.. Hinemoa continued to attack and were unlucky in not adding to their total. School eventually worked clear but .Barratt stemmed the attack. Half-time was called with no further score. ■

On the resumption School had the early advantage, but Hinemoa attacked hotly and Olive was tested again and defended 'his goal well. Hinemoa continued to attack but their shooting was very poor. School worked back to Hinemoa’s territory and Westwater had an unsuccessful shot. The Tallies Evened. Hinemoa came back but Monteith’s shot lacked direction. Westwater broke away from the halfway line and carried the ball right to the goal. Munroe ran back and cleared well, but School were conceded a corner. The ball was hit to West, who with with a smart, well-directed shot evened the scores: School 1 Hinemoa i 'School continued to press but Keenan and Barratt proved to be too strong on defence. Eventually Hinemoa got within striking distance and Conradi placed his team in the lead: Hinemoa 2 School 1 School had the advantage for a spell but Hinemoa were soon back and Conradi and Hampton scored in quick succession : Hinemoa 4 School l West gaining the ball from the bully sent his forwards away, but Barratt came to the rescue. The winners gained possession again and Conradi | notched their fifth goal. Hinemoa still held the advantage but West and Westwater receiving from their halves placed Hinemoa back on the defence. Hinemoa attacked and Olive cleared in approved style once more.

School Were Unlucky. School attacking hotly had a good opportunity, but Keenan jumping into the goal when the goalie rushed out, staved off the attack. The territorial margin was still with School, but Munroe checked most of their onslaughts. Hampton ran well down the field and had a hard shot which was disallowed for sticks. The final Whistle blew with Hinemoa on the attack and the score reading: Hinemoa 5 School l Messrs Tate and Fabling were the referees.
