THE AUCKLAND MEETING

FINAL GALLOPS AT ELLERSLIE

SEVERAL PLEASING EFFORTS

(By Telegraph—'Special io Times.) AUCKLAND, Thursday. Beautiful weather prevailed for training at Ellersiie this morning, when the final gallops for the Auckland Spring Meeting took place. The No. 2 grass -track and the sand track were used for fast work. The going on the grass was heavy, hut the sand was in excellent order. Among those who pleased most on the grass were' Seatown, Mendip, Catoma, Sub-Editor, Prodice and Awamutu while on the sand Count Palatine, Cylinder and Silvermine were responsible for good efforts. On the No. 2 grass, Hannibal ran half a mile in 54 2-5. Awaken was going easily alongside Te Atiawa over three furlongs run in 41 2-5. Brampton, ■ Imperial Prince and Spring Cong .were bunched at the end of five furlongs in 1.13. Principal, Neil and Tambourine finished as named over five furlongs in 1.11 2-5, while over a similar distance Currajong easily beat Sir Mond in 1.6 4-5.

Two Cup Candidates.

The Cup candidates Seatown and Mendip jumped off in front of the seven furlong. post, and after running the' first three furlongs in 39 3-5, completed six furlongs in 1.20 4-5. They both worked well, hut Seatown impressed most. Make Up, Nancy Lee, Ilmateagirl and Joyspcar, after taking 41seo for the first three furlongs were timed to run six furlongs in 1.21 1-5. They finished as named.

After getting the best of the start Ruling King was easily beaten by Gold Money over four furlongs in 52sec.

Hacks To Go Well. Catoma and Sub-Editor jumped off at the six furlongs post, and after taking 26 1-5 for the first two furlongs, rau home in 1.201-5. These backs shaped well, particularly SubEditor, who was right up with Catoma. Red Lion ran home from.the four furlongs peg in 55sec. Wild Country was a shade in front of Honiton over six furlongs in 1.22 1-5. Gay ■ Cockade had no difficulty in heating Merry Mason over five furlongs in 1.9. The two-year-olds La Poupee and Summertime sprinted three furlongs in 39 2-5. La Poupee, who shaped well, | was in front. Lady Quex was not extended to cover six furlongs in 1m 28s. Teller was too good for Chief Clerk and Chief Cook in a three furlong sprint, which occupied 39 3-ss.

The Jumpers. Freyja and Royal Day were over a round, which they ran in im 54 3-ss, finishing on terms. Mirabilary,' .Air King, and Foxhound ran seven furlongs in that order in lm 38 2-ss, with heads between them at the finish. Baroscope and Princess Bede gave Kingsway a start over four furlongs. The last named finished in front in 52 4-ss. Bennie was holding Manawhenua safely over six furlongs in lm 235. Waltzer, Red Comet and Glenotus finished in that order over a round in lm 545. Royal Finance was not . doing her best to cover six furlongs in lm 23 4-ss. Prodlce’s Good Gallop. The Mitchelson Cup candidates, Prodice (Wiggins), High Pitch (Jones), and Desert Clow, the latter with a light-weight rider, were associated over a round. They ran the distance in lm 47 3-ss, the final six furlongs being covered in lm 21s. Prodice was several lengths behind over the first six furlongs, but .ran up to her companions when they turned for home and was in front going easily at the finish. This was a good gallop. Royal Menu was timed to run the last three furlongs of his work in 40 l-ss. - Llanore showed to better advantage than Gay Idea‘over half a mile, done in 545. , Fastest of the Morning. Awamutu, Biddy’s Boy and Flying Prince were sent over six furlongs, fine first-named began best and led all the way, luinnng the distance in lm 19 4-ss. This was the fastest of the morning over the distance. , Count Palatine Impressive. Count Palatine (Wiggins) was toe good for Pedestal (Raynor) in a gallop over a round on the sand in lm 52 4-ss, the last mile taking lm 47, 3-5 s and the final sevey furlongs lm 34 2-ss. Count Palatine went exceptionally well and looks in excellent order. Cylinder and Silvermine, both carrying light hoys, were responsible for a smart gallop over six furlongs Silvermine got the Lest of the start, but Cylinder caught him before hair the distance was covered, and beat him home by a head. They ran the first three furlongs in 38 l-ss, and the full distance in lm 17s. Star Stranger (Gray), who began slowly from the mile post was timed to run the last seven furlongs in lm 37 3-ss, and the final half mile in 555. He went very evenly throughout and could have done better.

An Attack of Bleeding. Ceremony jumped off at' the five furlong post and was going well over the first three furlongs when he was eased up owing to bleeding. Jumpers In Action. King Swift and Wako King were schooled over a couple of hurdles and got through their ' task safely, although King Swift blundered at the first obstacle. Aflerwards Wako King was sent over lhA fences on the flat, and went well. Taumai (11. Dulieu) gave a finished display in his work over two hurdles. Kiwinui (McGregor) was schooled over the Steeplechase fences, including file hill. lie completed the task safely. Luminary (L. Dulieu) gave a good display over a round of schooling hurdles, afterwards doing strong work over the six furlongs on No. 2 grass track.

Historic Gallops Well

At Avondale, Historic, who was ridden by a light boy, jumped off at the mile post, and after traversing two furlongs was joined by Claremore and Grand Tea, the latter having all the worst of weights. Historic worked very pleasingly, and wound up in 1:53.

THE LOCAL CANDIDATES. TRAINING AT TE RAPA. THE WORK THIS MORNING. The weather was fine for training operations at Te Rapa this morning. The trestles were 56 feet out from the rails on the course proper and the going, while holding, was greatly improved -from the galloping conditions on Tuesday. Beau Irish and Pompeius, who will be raced at Ellerslie on Monday, were sent six furlongs, which they covered in 1.24,’ the former being in front. Star Comet (P. M. Brady) and Royal Visitor (W. Rennie) worked well over a journey of approximately a mile and three furlongs, jumping the two hurdles inside the first furlong, after starting at the mile post. Paganelii gave Glena Bay a break and beat him over half a mile in 53 3-5. The improved nature of the going suited Paganelii better than on Tuesday. Ilollyholm was in front of Gay Duke, at the end of half a mile in 55 secs. Both were on the move when they hopped off. King Ford hit out freely in a sharp sprint down the straight to finish h.s work. Arch 1 Eagle, in covering half a mile \n 58i ran a straight three furlongs down the back in 42 secs. Pair from A. Tinker’s Team. Mervette and Stonehenge were under way when they reached the six furlong post. Mervette, who was on the outside and had the worst of the start, was in front at the finish, her time fpr the journey being 1.23 3-5. Persham, who is to race in the Musket Stakes at Ellerslie on Monday, moved nicely in leading Toujours, the Warplaiie-Noretta filly, also in A. Tinker’s stable, in a gallop over the three furlongs from beyond the head of the straight. Ruby Dawn jumped a couple of hurdles and acquitted herself well. Valuation also accomplished a s'milar task, and his effort, while not flawless, indicated that he is showing progress in the department. Ruling Chief, who has rejoined J. F. Tutchen’s stable, Mosque, Page Boy, Lupin Abbey, Wee Prince, Queenstown, and Unoco were among the horses worked this morning. Royal Visitor will be taken north to-morrow by motor float. Paganelii will probably accompany him. Imamint out of Guineas. Mervette, Stonehenge and Persham will be the members of A. Tinker’s team who will leave for Ellerslie tomorrow. Imamint is not keeping her engagement in the Great Northern .Guineas. After working freely yesterday, the Catmint-Ra Aroha filly developed lameness. Arch Eagle will be the only member of R. Syme’s team for racing at Ellerslie. Daylight and Cruachan will not keep their engagements, owing to the death of their owner.

A DUAL OFFICE. TE AROHA APPOINTMENTS. In addition to being appointed secretary of the Te Aroha Jockey Club, Mr 11. 'C. Cotton, of Auckland, has also been appointed secretary of the Te' Aroha Trotting Club.
