TECHNICAL EDUCATION

TIMARU COLLEGE. NEW PRINCIPAL APPOINTED. MR F. L. M. TUCK, OF HAMILTON. Notification has been received of his appointment to the position of principal of the Timaru Technical College by Mr F. L. M. Tuck, 8.A., B.Sc. (engineering), A.C.G.1., A.M.1.E.E., of the staff of the Hamilton Technical College. Atr Tuck will succeed Mr A. McFadI yen, who was recently appointed io the new school at Petone. Educated in England, Mr Tuck has long been connected with various branches of technical education, haying had experience in the British Westinghouse Company, and also as an estimating engineer in Berlin. His teaching experience in New Zealand has been extensive. He was head of the department of physics and electrical engineering at Seddon Memorial Technical College, Auckland, for some time, and during the past few years has occupied a similar position on the staff of the. Hamilton Technical College. Mr /Tuck has also had secondary school experience at Nelson College and at Hamilton High School. During his connection with the Hamilton Technical College the electrical department has made great progress, and the successes attained by the students in the City and Guilds examinations, in electrical engineering practice, and in technical electricity' in various New Zealand examinations, testify to the exceptionally high order of his work, despite the extremely difAcult conditions existing locally as regards accommodation. Mr Tuck has ( spent much time and thought in improving the equipment and in developing a course with a view to carrying ! on his work under better conditions in ! the new buildings, but now he will j not be present to enjoy the fruits of | his work. It is expected that Mr Tuck will take up his duties next term./
