OTOROHANGA NEWS

PLUNKET SOCIETY. The Otorohanga sub-branch of the Plunket Society held its annual meeting in the society’s new rooms in the Town Hail building, on Friday afternoon. Mrs. Arthur Tait, the president, occupied tlac chair. The balance-sheet disclosed that a sum of £SOO had been raised in order to provide the society’s portion of the building (an annexe to the 'flown Hall) and after paying the costs of erecting and furnishing the rest rooms, there was now a credit balance of £79 in hand.

The election of officers resulted: — President, Mrs. F. T. Wyllie; vicepresidents, Mrs. W. E. Lawson and Mrs. Arthur Tait; secretary, Mrs. 11. W. Smith; treasurer, Mrs. W. J. G. Patterson; committee, Mesdames C. R. C. Blomfleld, H. G. Corbett, H. C. Alexander, W. J. Bovvyer, 0. A. Dalziel, S. J. Fortescue, Fletcher, C. B. Gilberd, V. L. Fairbrother, C. Irvine, W. B. McAdam, R. T, Rhodes and F. 0. R. Phillips. It was decided to appoint Mrs. A. Banks as oare<taker of the rooms.

The secretary was instructed to convey the thanks of the society to the Otorohanga Municipal Band for the use of the hand buildings prior to and during the course of the erection of the society’s own premises. The usual routine work was transacted and a vote of thanks to the retiring offl'cers brought a very enthusiastic meeting to a close. Garden Party. Under ideal weather conditions, a pleasant and remunerative garden party was held on Saturday afternoon at Oakleigh, the residence of Mrs D. W. Sefcbie, of Puketarata Road. Among those present were: Mesdames A. Tait, Thompson, G. M. Farmer, A. B. R. Mossman, P. H. Rowe, 11. G. Alexander, P. F. Skinner, M. J. Hilder, R. Rhodes, C. K. C. .Blomfleld, 11. Smith, Treharne, Phillips, and Misses Edwards (2), Phyllis Farmer, Ngaire Alexander, Lilian Quinlan, Helen Farmer and Messrs. A. B. R. Mossman and M. J. Hilder. Miniature cricket, clock golf and various games provided enjoyment ior all and revenue for the St. Bride's Church (Anglican) funds. Afternoon tea was served on the lawn amid delightful surroundings and thus contributed towards the enjoyment of the memorable function.
