BRIDE-TO-BE HONOURED

A very.happy function took place in the Maungatautari Hall on Wednesday afternoon last, when the ladies of the--Maungatautari Tennis Club and t'he , ladies of the district gave, an afternoon in honour .of .the approaching mar- ’7 riage of Miss Joyce Strawhridge. The/ hall was prettily decorated as a drawing room, and beautiful flowers adorned the tables. During the afternoon a competition entitled “Strawberries” was won by Miss J. Watson. A dainty and sumptuous afternoon tea was .served by the ladies. Mr Ivirkby on. behalf of Mrs Ivirkby, president of the tennis club, asked Miss Strawhridge to accept a beautiful brass ornament as a token of the high esteem in which she was held, and also as’a slight’ recogni- . tion for past services rendered. Miss Strawhridge suitably responded. The singing of “For She’s a Jolly Good ! Fellow” brought a most enjoyable j afternoon to a close. Those present I were: Mesdames Budge, Imrie, Vosper, McVicar, Dean, Wilson, Kirkby, Strawbridge, Cooper, Watson, Griffin, J. T. Hicks, Adams, J. Watson, W, Hicks, Walker, E. J. Peake, Trow; Misses G. Hay, L. Trow, I. Meeking, M. Hicks, M. Mocking, M. Cooper, F. Strawhridge, J, Watson, C. Griffin, E. Wallace. Personal. Miss B. Osborne lias returned to her home in llorahora, after spending a holiday in Tauranga.
