MINISTER SYMPATHETIC. road and bridge relief. (Special Reporter.) TE PAIIU, Friday. Certain settlers in Te Paiiu Valley a.rc comparatively isolated owing to lack of a proper access. When the Minister of Public Works, Hon E. A. Ransom was at Te Paiiu this morning he was asked to give assistance 'towards opening' up a road which presents few engineering difficulties and which will shorten the distance to Hamilton by. nearly two miles, giving access to good gravel deposits. Mr M. J. Corcoran, riding member, said the settlers concerned were prepared to do the sanding of the roacl if the Minister could make them a grant towards the cost of the deviation. The Minister promised £2 for £i. A Bridge Required. Mr Corcoran also mentioned the position in which Mr D. Smith was placedIn winter his property was completelv cut off from the main road by reason of the flooding of a stream. Mr Smith was prepared to pay half the cost of a bridge if the. Department would assist him with the balance. The 'Minister promised Mr Smith some measure of assistance, but said he would first require to consult his engineers. Road Work Desired.
