HAMILTON MARKETS. RISE IN POTATOES PROBABLE. PRODUCE. The local merchants report that business has been steady throughout the week. Bran realises 9s Gd per cwt. Pollard lias been scarce, hut supplies are available from Australia at the late rate of Its per cwt. Wheat is slightly firmer in the south, though there is no alteration in the local prices. Maize is quiet at late rates. Potatoes are fairly firm, and an increase is almost certain in the near future. Quotations now ruling are 8s 6d to 9s per cwt. There is quite a good inquiry for seeds, and if the fine weather continues the record sales are expected to go on. Basic slag manure is being favoured by farmers, and large quantities are being despatched, shipments arriving steadily. Fruit. All fruit is in plentiful supply and meeting a good demand. The following prices are being realised —Apples: Jonathans 5s to 6s, Delicious Gs.to 6s 6d, Cox’s Orange 7s lo Bs, cooking vaireties 5s to 6s; Louis Bon Jersey pears 10s to Us, others 5s to 8s; Golden Dueen peaches 5s to 6s, others 4s 6cl to 5s 6cl; tomatoes, first grade Gs to 7s, second grade 4s to 6s, sauce tomatoes 2s 6d to 3s Gd; oranges 40s to 455; bananas 32s 6d to 36s 6d. Vegetables. The markets are well supplied with vegetables, with the following rates ruling:—Cabbages 4s 6d • to 5s Gd sack, cauliflowers 9s to 10s sack, pumpkins 8s to 8s Gel cwt, swedes 2s Gd sugar hag, french beans 5s to 5s 6cl sugar bag, green peas, 5s to 6s sugar hag, kuroeras 2d to 21 cl lb, lettuces 5s Yo 7s banana case. Poultry. Large yardings came forward during [lie week and‘prices realised were in advance of previous sales. There was keen competition for forward pullets, which realised up to Bs. Fish. The local dealers report that all varieties of fish are coming to hand well and meeting a steady demand at late rates. Dairy Produce. Butter remains firm at Is 4cl to Is Gd per lb, while eggs are becoming scarce and bring is 10c! dozen wholesale.

PAMERSTON NORTH SALE. WOOL, SKINS HIDES AND TALLOW. Messrs Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report: We held our monthly sale of the above on Wednesday, March 19, when we submitted a large catalogue c r all classes to a full attendance of buyers. Wool sold on a parity with values ruling at the metropolitan centres. The sheepskin market was erratic for dry skins, with an easing tendency. Salted skins, if anything, were firmed than at previous sales. Hides: The market for ox hides ruled fi'nn. Cow hides were in demand at a slightly lower level of values. Calfskins" and yearlings ruled firm. Tallow marcly maintained late rates. Salted skins: Quarter wools 4s 2d each, pelts, medium weights 3s 3d io 3s 4d, light ,2s to 2s 3d, lambs Is 9d to 2s, pelts, damaged Is to Is Gd Hides.: Ox heavy Ggd medium Ggel, light 6d to 6gd; cow, heavy 5Jd, medium s£d, .light aid, cut and inferior 3|d to sd;! calfskins, best lines 13gd, good 13d, stained 12d, cut and inferior 6d to lid, yearlings 6id to 7Ad.
