Mr and Mrs D. V. Bryant will leave for a month’s holiday in Sydney on Friday.

Mr W. T. Collins, district superintendent to the Agricultural Department, is visiting Hamilton.

Mr Henry Chilton, British Minister to the Holy See, lias been appointed Ambassador at Santiago, Chile.

Mr E. W. Mac Lean, of Wellington, a director of Messrs Jas. ,T. Niven and Co., Ltd., is visiting Hamilton.

Mr J. Gilbert is visiting Wellington, where he has been attending the Empire and Dominion farmers’ conference.

Mr W. Cecil Leys, of Auckland, relumed by the Maunganui yesterday, after a world tour, which occupied a year.

Sir Truby King returned to Wellington from Sydney by the Marama yesterday after spending two months in Australia.

Lieut-Colonel Phillip A. Meldon, D. 5.0., accompanied by his wife, the Hun. Mrs Meldon, sister of Lord Cromwell, arrived at Wellington by the Mnkura on a short- visit to the Dominion.

Messrs P. Schneideman, G. W. Mac Lean (Wellington), A. C. Motion (Waiuku), E, R. Smith, H. K. Buttock (Auckland), D. McArthur (Napier), Dr. W. R. Ryburn and Dr. R. E. Fulton (Ashburton), and Dr. R. V. Graves (Waverley) arc at the Hamilton Hotel.

Mr T. H. Hpnderson, of Horsham Downs, president ol’ the Waikato subprovincial branch of the Farmers’ Union, returned from Wellington this morning. He has been attending the conference between Dominion and overseas farmers.

The Rt. Rev. Bishop Liston, accompanied by Rev. Father O'Flynn, of To Awamutu visited Raglan on .Monday. His -Lordship held a confirmation service at the Church of the Holy Name, and afterwards was present at an afternoon tea given by Mrs J. O’Sullivan to Hie children who were confirmed.

The results are announced (says a London message) of the examination, in written subjects, of officers with a view to promotion in the Regular Army, Indian Army and Dominion Forces, which was held at stations abroad in October. The successful New Zealand candidates were :—Captains E. L. G. Down, J. A. M. Clachan, and W. G. Gentry, N.Z. Staff Corps; c. T. 1 Gillespie, It.N.Z.A.; S. C. V. W. Sugden, N.Z. Staff Corps; Lieutenants R. J. Eyre and J. P. Joyce. R..N.Z.A.
