KITCHEN HINTS.
1. To clean paint dip a clean, wet cloth in whiling and rub the paint till dirt is removed. ljinse well with clean water, dry with a soft cloth, and polish with a chamois leather. 2. An economical and useful floor polisli can he made from short candle ends. Save up all small pieces and melt down in a small tin; rcmoxc the wicks, then add equal parts of keiosune and turpentine. Stir well and allow to set before using. H will then he a soft wax. Apply in the usual way with a cotton doth and iub over with a large dry ciolli. 3. Coarse brown sugar is an article of constant use in a kitchen. A saltspoonful 'to a pound of meat assists tenderness in the case of such parts as arc commonly used for slews, puddings, etc. 4. Home-made Cochineal. —Take a red beetroot, wash and pare it, then grate it. Put in a little bag and squeeze out the juice. Hoi 1 a tablespoonful of water with eight lumps of sugar till it forms a syrup. Add the ■beetroot juice and bring to the boil again; it is then ready for use.
