Road Improvements, Considerable activity is apparent on the main Otorohanga-Te Kuiti road, where the acute angles, which have ever been a menace to motorists, are being considerably reduced. The Main Highways Board, which has taken over the main highway through the Otorohanga County, will concentrate their immediate activities on improving the new road between Otorohanga and Hangatiki, and propose erecting a new bridge over the Orakiri stream at an early date. This route will shorten the distance between Otorohanga and Hangatiki 'by some two miles, provide a fairly straight speedway and eliminate three dangerous railway crossings. Meeting of Householders. About 35 householders met in the Kio Kio Hall to consider the question ' of consolidating -the local school with that of Otorohanga. It had been proposed to construct a septic tank costing about £IOO, of which amount the local committee would have to find some £26. This, on top of other expenditure to bring the sanitary conditions in line with modern requirements, caused the committee to turn its thoughts towards the question of consolidating with Otorohanga, where there are ample sanitary and educational facilities for all. About five of the householders voted for consolidation and the balance against it. Plunket Rest-rooms Opened. The.official opening of the new- restrooms, which were built as an annexe of the Otorohanga Municipal Hall, ! eventuated before a large and enthusiastic crowd. Mr F. O. R.
