The commandeering of foodstuffs, the occupation of telegraph and wireless stations, the seizure of railway' rolling- stock, and slight skirmishing have been the chief features of the latest anti-Nanking rebellion so far. Dozens of former notorious war lords, great and small, are seizing the present" opportunity to recommence military activity, and are joining (he rebels and receiving appointments, but (lie majority are unable to contribute more titan personal services. It is reported that American and Italian reinforcements are en route for |lie Peking Legation from Chin Wang la o for the purpose of protecting foreign nationals in the event of disturbances arising. The rebels apparently intend a double drive on Hankow and Nanking, utilising the railways in both instances, but it is not yet clear whether the present uprising lias intentions of attempting to destroy the Nanking Government or of merely establishing an independent Government in Peking. Both sides arc vigorously distributing propaganda in order to obscure their real intentions. Reliable information is not obtainable but Shansi circles cailm the d<> eisive defeat of Hail I'u Cbu, a forme; Shansi General who recently seceded to Nanking. It is alleged that llan's troops fled before a Shansi onslaught led by General Sun Tien Ting, leaving 111 etc army and munitions on the field. General Han is said to be ready to retire and band over the command to subordinates.
