RAILWAY MISHAP.
RUNAWAY TRAIN. GUARD'S AMAZING ESCAPE. United Press Assn. —Elec. Tel.—Copyright. SYDNEY, March *24. Another railway accident occurred on the Blue Mountains. The coupling connecting two trucks on a goods train Broke, whereupon nine loaded trucks and the guard’s van ran down a grade near Lawson. They travelled along half-a-mile of the track and then were thrown off by a safety-catch attached to a set of points. The guard had a remarkable escape as his van was precipitated on to a road 12 feet below the railway line. Live coals from a lire in the van set the woodwork alight. The guard scrambled to safety through a window. .Serious damage was done to the trucks, their contents and the track.
