A NOTED SWIMMER.

MISS LILY COPPLESTONE. ATTEMPTS ON RECORDS. Miss Lily Gopplestone, of Christchurch, the well-known swimming exponent, who has just completed a tour of New Zealand, during which time she has coached no fewer than 1000 children, was in Hamilton to-day. Questioned as to her plans for the coming season Miss Gopplestone stated that it was her intention about Christmas to attempt to lower her previous record across the Lyttelton harbour. Her record Bn that occasion was ihr. 20m. for the distance, three miles. She will also attempt to cross the Wellington Harbour from Day’s Bay to Wellington. Of special interest to local swimming circles is the knowledge that Miss Gopplestone has not given up her intention to swim the Waikato River. She hopes, early next season, to break the existing record and will enter the water at Cambridge. Miss Copplestone, who entered professional ranks in November last year, held ten provincial and national titles in one season.
