S. AUCKLAND TOURNEY. PLAY COMMENCED TO-DAY. RECORD ENTRIES IN ALL SECTIONS The annual championship tournament of the croquet clubs in the South Auckland district was commenced this morning on the Hamilton Club lawns, but before many games had been decided heavy rain set in and interfered with the play. The tournament is divided into four sections, handicap singles, and doubles, to be played on the Hamilton lawns, and championship singles and doubles, which will be decided on the Frankton ground. Record entries' have been received in all competitions, and play is expected to take up the greater part of two weeks. Besides teams from local clubs there are also present ladies from Thames, Te Aroha, Cambridge, and Otoroaar.ga. The officials connected with the tournament are the umpires, Mesdames Mcilcle, Kibblewhite, Belgrave and Pearce, and the referee Mrs Bartlett. To-day’s Play.
