FIVE SOLDERS INJURED
CAR RUNS INTO THEM. ACCIDENT AT WAIPUKURAU. DRIVER BLINDED BY DUST. (By Telegraph.—Tress Association.) WAIPUKURAU, Monday. A serious collision between a motor ■car and six territorials occurred on •the Racecourse Road at 12.45 o'clock yesterday morning. The men, who were undergoing the annual training camp on the Waipukurau racecourse, were returning from the artillery dance at the municipal theatre. When walking abreast along the road a car passed them "travelling it is alleged at a furious rate, enveloping the party in thick dust. The soldiers moved aside and allowed the car to pass safely and then again took the road. Travelling immediately after was another car driven by Dr. J. H. Fahey, of Takapau, whose vision was temporarily blinded by the dust. He drove into the soldiers, striking five who were conveyed to the public hospital in an ambulance. The injured are:— Gunner Eric Hollings, 19th Battery, 97 Apu Crescent, Lyall Bay; j serious head injuries. ! Gunner C. lan Villars, 17th Battery, j 92 Richmond Street, Petone, internal injuries. Condition serious. Gunner Edward Kerridge, 17th Battery, 416 Jackson St. Petone; severe injuries to face and shock. Not critical. Gunner Reginald Alfred Andrews, Bth Battery, Alfred Street, Palmerston North; shoulder injured, not serious. Lance Bombardier Arthur N. Toswell, View' Road, Low'er Ilutt; injuries to foot. N-ot serious.
