A slight earthquake shock was felt at Morrinsville at 4.50 this morning. The Welington City Council has donated £IOO to the Wellington Obstetrical Society. It is probable that the new' Bank of New Zealand premises in Hamilton North will be opened during the first week in April. Five cases of typhoid are in the New Plymouth Hospital. None is serious, and the authorities do not anticipate a spread of the infection. Particulars are advertised regarding cheap rail fares and the provision of special trains to the Thames Trotting races at Thames on Saturday next. The Hamilton Supreme Court is expected to resume during the first week in April, when Ilis Honour, Mr Justice Smith will sit here for about a couple of days. The new rush-cutting boat ordered by the Hamilton Domain Board, at a cost of over £3OO, has arrived from England, and is in the Horse Bazaar awaiting conveyance to the Lake. Thieves attempted to rob the tomb of Gaby Deslys in St. Pierre Cemetery, Marseilles. Their object was to secure precious gems and other valuables said to have been buried with the onetime famous actress. The robbers rer moved a large slab, but a strong, bolted door resisted their every effort to penetrate it. To permit of ihe completion of the new Frankton Junction Hotel, the Hamilton Licensing Bench to-day adjourned its annual meeting till May 20. Mr P. 11. Watts, solicitor for .the licensee (Mr Fraser Smith) stated that unavoidable delay had occurred but the architect was confident that everything would be ready within two months. 'Over 250 members of the Waikato Mounted Rifles, under the command of Lieut--Colonel C. R. Spragg, started a week’s military training at Ngaruawahia to-day. Mainly on the grounds that no data as to wind, sunlight, and humidity are available, and that the expense would not he commensurate with results, two Christchurch specialists in tuberculosis stated that a proposal that surgical tuberculosis patients should be accommodated in an institution situated in the Alps would be economically unsound. The treatment of surgical cases of tuberculosis, not at the general hospital as at present, but in a special building to be erected in the grounds of the Cashmere Sanatoria, is being considered by the North Canterbury Hospital Board.
