RAETIHI CATTLE FAIR. • Messrs Dalgety and Company, Ltd., report having held a most successful cattle fair at Raetihi on March 18. Out of a yarding of approximately 1900 head of cattle we submitted 950. The quality of the yarding, with the exception of one or two pens, was excellent, and indicated that farmers were breeding a better class of cattle than previously. The buyers present for young cattle were from Waikato. Wanganui and Manawatu districts, and keenly competed for any good lines oj one and a half and two and a halfyear steers and heifers. Cows am. calves and rougher-bred young cattle were hard to sell and big bullocks in a number of cases did not reach the owners’ idea of value. Taken on the whole, the prices reached were better than was expected. We quote the following range of prices: 2j-year-old steers £8 to £9 14s, three-year-old steers £8 18s to £lO 10s, four and five-year-old coloured bullocks £8 5s to £lO 10s, .18-month steers £4 5s to £6 17s, fat cows £5 10s to £7 15s, empty cows £4 19s to £6, 20-month Polled Angus heifers to £6 10s, potter bulls £5 10s to £8 ils.
