PRIMARY SCHOOLS.

ANNUAL ATHLETIC SPORTS FIXTURE AT RUGBY PARK. MANY SCHOOLS REPRESENTED. For several years past It has been customary for the primary schools of the South Auckland district to hold an annual sports meeting in Hamilton. Year by year representatives from the various schools have met together, and on each occasion the attendances have shown an increase on those of previous years. Yesterday a new record was set, when nearly two thousand children representing ten schools, congregated at Rugby Park to participate in the sports- The entries, over 1300, shattered all previous records.

The programme was commenced In the morning, and except for an interval for lunch, it was continued throughout the day. At limes the noise from the gallery was deafening, as the children cheered their representatives on. Ribbons of many colours and quaintly decorated totem poles, proclaimed the schools represented.

A particularly fine selection of oups and trophies were offered for competition and a pleasing feature of the results was the fact that the country schools met with a fair measure of success. Some good performances were seen in several of the events especially in the distance races. A Whatawhata runner, Miller lOrmsby, was prominent in most of these events, and gained many points for his school. In the girls’ section, too, there were some noteworthy achievements.

Altogether the meeting was a complete success, and the fact that the lengthy programme was run off without a hitch was a tribute to the organisation of the officials of the South Auckland Public. Schools Amateur Athletic Association, under whose auspices the sports were held. Results of Events. IOOYds Open, Boys.—First heat: T. Prentice 1, H. Alker 2, D. Patterson 3. Second heat: C.
