BRITISH COAL BILL.
CONSERVATIVE MOTION REJECTED LIBERALS ABSTAIN FROM VOTING. United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel.—Copyright. LONDON, March 20. The decision of the Liberals not to risk a dissolution enabled the Government to pass safely through the dangers of the committee stage of the Coal Mines Bill. The House of Commons rejected by 274 votes to 22-9 tiie Conservalive motion to omit the provision empowering district coal boards !o i!x the minimum price at which all classes of coal should bo sold. Some of the Liberals supported the Conservative motion, opposing the clause regarding district levies for the purpose of facilitating the sal.;! of certain classes of coal, but the Government carried its point. The Government also added a se:>es of amendments giivng effect to the undertakings to provide further safeguards for the consumers. The committee stage was concluded and the House was adjourned.
