MEETING OF COUNCIL. IMPORTANT MATTERS DISCUSSER PICTURES ON GOOD FRIDAY. At the monthly meeting of the Cambridge Borough Council those present were:—The Mayor (Mr C. H. 7 Priestley), Crs. W. G. Care, F: C. “ Wallis, W. .Moore, A. Wilkinson, C. W. Clark, C. W. Boyce, H. A- Bell, M. Weils, F. R. Watters (town clerk), and T. Dix (engineer). The local theatre manager, Mr S. Hardwick, wrote asking permission to screen a suitable programme on ic Good Friday.—lt was resolved that m permission be granted, subject to the picture being approved by the Mayor m and Town Clerk. 1- The secretary, Cambridge Domain 1- Board, asked the council to arrange st tor the council’s committee to meet d the hoard on the 27th instant to discuss matters pertaining to tlie Domain under Ihc Public Domains Act. —The letter was received. Osborne, invited the Mayor and Councillors .to a demonstration and smoke concert on the 29th instant.—lt was’ resolved to accept the invitation. Tlie Director-General, Department lc of Agriculture, wrote in reply to the council’s letter, stating that they would not require the services of the 3 - abattoir manager after March 31. The letter stated that the manager 0 would be retained at Cambridge in the meantime as meat inspector, and he e was advising thc District SuperintendK ent of the Department at Auckland in ■ regard to the altered status of the o manager.—lt was resolved that the ! matter be left in the hands of the s | Mayor. 11 | Obstetrical Endowment Appeal. • s | Mrs N. F. Glanville.- —The Mayor was ap- : pointed tlie council's representative. Heavy Traffic License Fees. The Town Clerk, Hamilton Borough ■ Council, wrote inquiring whether the council is prepared to accept tlie ■ Magistrate’s order, allocating the fees--1 received for the period from March 31, 1929, until March 31, 1930, as Hie basis of apportionment for the 12 months ending March 31, 1931. | Boroughs would retain 55 per cent, of their collections.—The town clerk advised that the arrangement was fairly equitable. It was therefore resolved that the apportionment he accepted. Or. Wilkinson brought up the matter of mooring sites for small craft at thc river, at tlie bottom of Duke Street. He stated that doubt existed as -to who was the authority to apply to for mooring- sites, the Marine Department or the Council. The clerk explained that the waters of the river were under the control of the Marine Department, while the river banks were controlled by tha council. Cr. Wilkinson said he asked the question for the reason that the representative of the Shipping Company | had informed a member of his family that if he did not shift his boat, which was fifty yards from the wharf, it would be squashed. Under these circumstances it was desirable that all interests on the river should be protected. It was decided that the Mayor and. Cr. Wilkinson be a committee to inspect the area, and select a mooring ground for small craft. Mrs E. Stuart wrote asking the council to make some reduction in her rates. Her son, who was her main support, had been in tlie hospital ! for two months. —It was resolved to remit one-half of the c-urrent year's rates.
