Last evening was the last opportunity for Hamiltonians to witness the provincial crew in training. The crew displayed quite good form in their final row and were a pretty sight, the timing and rhythm being all that could be desired. With six ex-New Zealand champions and two Auckland Provincial champions in the crew it should lack nothing in the way of oarsmanship in the big contest to-morrow. However, only ten days’ training in an eight-oar boat is scarcely enough time for a gruellling three mile race in an eight. Great credit is due to the club coach (Mr S. 11. Buchanan) for t.he time he has devoted to the crew. The crew will depart for Auckland to-morrow morning. The reserves to the crew are J. Partridge and J. Baker. The coxswain, P. Stewart, left this morning to go ovefc the course to-day in the official launch. Mr S. 11. Buchanan, club captain and coach, and Mr Y. St. George, club secretary, will accompany the crew to Auckland. After the race a smoke concert is being tendered to all visiting oarsmen by the Auckland Rowing Association. WELCOME TO OARSMEN. PLEA FOR ASSISTANCE. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Friday. The Mayor to-day welcomed the Visiting oarsmen who will lake part in the inter-provincial eight-oar rowing contest for the Hollyburlon Johnstone Cup on Saturday afternoon. Mr Hall, a member of the Rowing Council, who is one of the selectors of the crew for a New Zealand eight, said it- was up to every oarsmen 'in the Dominion to get behind the association and help raise the necessary funds to send a crew to Canada. The Olympic Games Committee had given £IOOO, but £750 additional was required to get the crew away.
