MUNICIPAL TALKIES.
A WRONG IMPRESSION. LETTER FROM THE MAYOR. The Mayor of Hamilton, Mr J. R. Fow, writes ; "My attention has been drawn to an article in the Times under the heading, ‘Municipal Talkies-’ Whilst it may have been inserted purely as a humorous skit, it has not the slightest foundation in fact, it would convey the impression that the council's business was carried on under extreme difficulties, amid confusion and annoyance. This was not so. The terms of the agreement set out that the walls had to be made sound-proof. Last Wednesday evening was Ihc first occasion when tiie council met under the new conditions. Every councillor was agreeably surprised at the results obtained, 'Cr. Barton in particular, who had opposed tiie innovation, declaring that lie took back all lie had said. In justice to ihc lessees, and in justice to the councillors, I wish lo remove the impression that there was any discomfort whatever. The business was carried on with equal despatch and with as much dignity as ever before.”
