Labour has chosen Mr H. T. Armstrong, M.P., to contest the Christchurch City Council vacancy, against Mr C- E. Jones, the Citizens’ candidate. Mr. F. INI. -Fordo, acting-Minister of Customs, says the Federal Government is providing bounties -on ilax fibre and linseed for a period of five years. It was reported at the meeting of the committee of the New Zealand Shipwreck Relief Society that up lo the present £3222 had been distributed by the society toward the relief of sufferers by the wreck of the Manuka on December 16.
