CHURCH CHAOS.
BISHOPS’ LAW-BREAKING. LORD CUSHENDUN’S ALLEGATIONS. The Archbishop of Tones decision (o propose at Ihe meeting of the Church Assembly Ihe appointment of a commission to inquire into the relations between Ihe, Church and the State was opposed by a meeting of lay churchmen at. Church' House, Westminster (says a London paper). Lord Cushcndun said that in certain circumstances he would support disestablishment as the one means of disciplining the bishops. If disestablishment came it would be vitally important to set up a new constitution for the Church which would be thoroughly democratic and which the laity would control. “The Church to-day is in a state of chaos,” he said. “We have had the Prayer Book of 1928 rejected by Parliament, and that has been followed by thoroughly illegal and law-break-ing action on the part of many of the bishops. “Wc have men like the Bishop of London and the Bishop of Truro, not only Jaw-breakers themselves, but encouraging others to break the law, and under present circumstances I see no method of controlling these men.”
