OBITUARY.
MR. T. A. McCALL. Mr. Thomas Alexander McCall, a farmer, of Te Kuiti, who had been visiting relatives at Otorohanga, during the past few days, succumbed to an attack of pneumonia. The deceased was a native of Armagh, Ireland, and had been resident in New Zealand for 54 years. MR. JOHN KIRBY. LONDON, March 18. The death has occurred of Air. John Kirby, a New Zealand comedian. Deceased was appearing in the musical play “ Silver Wings.’ ’ He played on Saturday evening, and was taken ill suddenly on Sunday. Death was due to cerebral hemorrhage.
Although the late Mr. Kirby was a New Zealander, having been born in Dunedin about 35 years ago, he was better known professionally in Australia, where he played for some years under the Fuller management, principally in comedy parts in drama. Later he essayed musical comedy roles with considerable success, and toured the Dominion with Fuller and Ward musical comedy companies. He subsequently went to England, .where he secured a good contract, and lie has been playing character comedy roles practically continuously ever since. Mr. Kirby was generally recognised as one of the most consistent musical comedy players on the West End stage. SIR HENRY LEFROY. PERTH, March 19. The death occurred to-day of Sir Henry Lefroy, a former Premier of Westren Australia, and Agent-General from 1901 to 1904. lie was a prominent pastoralist. CAPTAIN D. F. SCOTT. News has been received from Makambo, Solomon Islands, of Ihe death from malarial fever at Segi, Marovo Lagoon, of Captain David Frederick Scott, aged 30, son of Mr. David Scott, of Dcvonport. MR- ALEXANDER ERICKSON. OPOTIKI, Wednesday. The funeral took place to-day of the late Mr. Alexander Erickson, aged 78 years.
