The Minister of Finance replying In the appropriation debate in the Assembly explained that the failure of the £6,000,000 loan was due to the issue price not appealing to big subscribers. A cable message to-day stated the underwriters had been relieved of a considerable amount of the loan, which was now at a live eighths premium. He announced that the duty on sugar, which was at present is 6d plus the suspended duty of 3s 6d per 1001 b, would be doubled. By-products would be exempted.
The speaker announced the adoption of the designation “ M.P.” for Members of the House, instead of " 1 M.L.A.” in order to come into line with the practice in other Dominions.
