PROSECUTIONS AT OTOROHANGA. VERY BAD CASES. (Special to Times.) OTOROHANGA, Thursday. In the Otorohanga Magistrate’s Court, before Mr F. W. Platts, S.M., J. D. Anderson, noxious weeds inspector, proceeded against Murdo McKenzie for failing to clear ragwort from his holding- on the Waitorno Valley Road. The inspector described the ease as a serious one, as the adjoining landowners had done good work in clearing ragwort growth. Counsel for defendant stated that his client had employed men lo deal the weed, and had also personally assisted in the work. Most of the work had been done since the inspector’s visit to the property. His Worship said that the -casus of failing to clear ragwort were serious. Defendant was fined £5 with costs. D. Morgan was charged with failing to clear noxious weeds. The inspector classed this as an extremely had case, the ragwort being as thick as wheat. Defendant exhaustively explained his unfortunate position in being surrounded by ragwort-infested lands. He claimed that he had cleared his property since the inspector’s visit. His Worship said that he had intended imposing a fine of £lO in this ease, but after hearing the defendant’s explanation lie would make the fine £5 with costs 12s.
