N.S.W. RAILWAYS.
RESTORATION OF 48-KOUR WEEK, SAVING OF £600,000 PER ANNUM. United Press Assn.—urec. Tel.—Copyright. (Received March 18, 9.45 a.m.) SYDNEY, March 18. The State Government will probably introduce legislation this session to revert to the 4S-hour week in the railway service. The law at present provides for 44 hours. The change would render possible savings to the extent of £600,000 annually, and a reduction of 2000 in the staffs, but entrenchment in this direction is not ■contemplated, a system of rationing the work being suggested.
